Program Funding
Orfund Foundation's program funding from inception through 2009 has totalled C$522,648. Annual program funding has increased from C$11,500 in 2005 to C$155,299 in 2009. Anticipated program funding in 2010 is C$170,000.
Our program funding has expanded from one community-based program in 2005, Kamogelo, which provided services to about 25 pre-school orphans and vulnerable children to six community-based programs in 2009. The programs we supported in 2009 are:
These programs provide services to approximately 335 pre-school orphans and vulnerable children and over 500 school-aged orphans and vulnerable children. In addition through a partnership with
Flying Mission we provide funding to train pre-school teachers. In 2009 this training resulted in qualifications for ten women that are recognized in Southern Africa. In addition in 2009 we commenced training in financial management and the computerization of accounting records and reporting.
In addition to the absolute increase in the number of orphans and vulnerable children receiving services the range of services has also been expanded. From a start in 2005 of providing basic nutritional and material needs such as clothing and a safe environment the programs we support now provide early childhood development services including educational, nutritional and health services. These services are provided in modern facilities which meet the standards as set by the Government of Botswana. In addition we are involved in building local human resource capabilities through various training initiatives. The expansion of local human resources is a key to building sustainable organizations.
Orfund Foundation's Expense Policy
All of Orfund Foundation's employees and Board of Directors are volunteers and receive no compensation or expense reimbursement for out of pocket expenditures such as for air travel or hotels. The vast majority of third party services from lawyers, administrators, fund raisers and advertisers are provided on a pro-bono basis. The small amount of third party expenses that are not provided on a pro-bono basis (such as the annual audit fee) is paid by the Founders. The above enables Orfund Foundation to operate with 0% of donations being used to fund its operating expenses.
